Coastal Plain Willows grow as shrubs or trees in wetlands throughout Florida. They are an incredibly important species in the Everglades, where they create tree islands in the marsh. These tree islands, known as willow heads, are crucial habitat for wading birds and other animals that use them for shelter and locations to build nests.
