Golden Silk Orbweavers are some of the largest spiders in North America and common throughout Florida. The large females reach maturity in August and can be seen throughout the fall. They build large webs that can be up to 6 feet in diameter and are typically found about chest height in gaps and across trails in the forests and hammocks. The male spiders (below) are much smaller, averaging about a quarter of inch in body length, and hang out in the web of the female.
