The Mangrove Tree Crab is a common inhabitant of the roots and branches of red and black mangroves throughout Florida, the Caribbean, and Central America. They feed on a wide variety of things including the leaves of mangroves as well as scavenging various vegetation and animal detritus. They are extremely fast and can climb up to one meter per second to avoid predators and even leap from the tree canopy to the mud below.
