I grew up catching Pinfish off the end of the dock at the beach and they are at the center of many important childhood memories. They are one of the more common small fish found on grass flats and in estuaries and can be hugely abundant at times. They feed on about anything and can be voracious feeders with younger fish focusing primarily on small crustaceans while adult Pinfish have more plant material in their diet. They are an important prey item for numerous larger fish and even dolphin.
