The Black-crowned Night-Heron is one of those few bird species that are found across basically the entire planet. The juvenile birds, pictured here, are all mottled brown, while the adults are a striking grey and white with a black cap. As their name suggests, they hunt mostly at night, particularly just after dusk and before dawn, and roost during the day.
